My friend, my father, I came across an old photo tonight,
And immediately I was with you in the Endless Lights,
Beyond time and place,
—Certainly beyond qualities!—
And briefly, I remembered, yes! Remembered…
Not to forget.
One must make a talisman of these moments,
An invisible, shapeless and formless one that winds around the heart:
No words, no sounds:
Only reality.
The reality of what you gave me,
And the friendship that will never end.
My father, my friend, I could never forget
The light illuminating your silver hair,
The robes that draped just so (they wouldn’t dare
do anything less!):
How elegant you were and are!
You yourself the signpost pointing
Beyond…
Right here.

Beautiful. Who is that man on the picture?
That is my life’s teacher, Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan. You would find a lot about him right here on my blog, but also on the internet in general.
