The little reassurances we give ourselves,
We place them delicately, carefully on our painstakingly constructed house of cards
(There’s always room for another)
And thus we have a beautiful house built of the stories we tell ourselves.

They call this technique “denial,” you know.
They make jokes about it: that river in Egypt, they say: denial.
