Reassurances

The little reassurances we give ourselves,

We place them delicately, carefully on our painstakingly constructed house of cards

(There’s always room for another)

And thus we have a beautiful house built of the stories we tell ourselves.

They call this technique “denial,” you know.

They make jokes about it:  that river in Egypt, they say:  denial.

Well, what’s wrong with a good swim, if the water is clean?

Good question! Here’s another: What if our little ‘lies’ are sometimes intimations from our wider, kinder, more compassionate and patient selves?
